Your experiences have been different than mine, sounds like, also possibly your reaction to them ... fwiw, for many years i have been owner and operator of chainsaws and bulldozers, a lucky situation in which greater obstacles can be overcome with sharper teeth and/or the application of more power ... this probably leads to an attitude in human relations, where you don't take shit from nobody [except Revenue Canada, of course] [he said, lost in a jungle of paperwork] ... in an urban life more dependent on people contact, this attitude could be harder to maintain

But maybe my first paragraph there is unclear, let me rephrase - Multiculturalism is a good thing within an individual, a family, a group of friends, a society ... and a bad thing when it is taken to mean a separation of individuals, families, groups within society ... groups remaining insular for any length of term within a society is to be deplored, imho, for that is not multiculturalism, but a collection of competing uniculturalisms, guaranteed to produce friction ... not talking here of ethnic customs or food or language or any of that, just the attitude toward others - there has to be an overall overriding sense of being canadian

So i am agreeing with much of what you say ... remember that i'm pretty ignorant of cities, of a world of offices, spend the least possible time in them, and due to that there may be an element of wishful thinking in my view of the situation

Assimilation is inevitable in the end, and to be encouraged ... that's a stronger term than 'integration', and a better goal imho, it will involve marrying each other's sisters through the generations ... trick is to keep the peace during the process, and no it won't always be easy ... people take this stuff far too seriously

For real debating fun, try that 'assimilation' line on those of your neighbours who happen to be movers and shakers in the local 'first nations' band, lol ..... no, maybe better don't, or check out escape routes first ... still, every year genes from that band enter the wider society, and vice versa, and you will be right in the end

In a civilised society, all are equal before the law ... that said, in every nation there have been periods of shameful discrimination, and in some limited cases there may be cause for 'affirmative action', imho ... then that will be taken too far, like every swing in human affairs - my main experience with this effect comes from having been incorrigibly male through the whole wimzlib business, which began with valid issues and became ridiculous

The french really did get screwed in this country, you know, there have been broken promises from before, during, and after the days of Baldwin and Lafontaine ... demented anglos really have shouted out on the streets and schoolyards of Montréal, Hey speak white, and not all that long ago either ... so now there are idiots making absurdities in the other direction, well how surprising is that, eh

Your fellow employee who got mad at your english password, was a dickhead, or perhaps was just having a dickhead moment, in which case it would be your duty to calmly bring the fact to his attention .... sounds to me like an invitation to the dance of wit, maybe you could offer to him, assuming he was french, to change the password to 'ribbet'

... no, don't say that ... or, well, whatever ya think, lol ... sorry, i can't take much of this stuff seriously, being an heinz57 mongrel and all, the premises leading to troubles just seem so stupid ... i think a lot would benefit from buying a bulldozer, and a place to drive it on sundays, if enough of the aggravated did that the world would be a lot smoother .... cheers
