When I started this thread I was taken to task by an individual that indicated that trying to address a societal problem instead raised a red flag for him. This individual certain has that right to believe that way, however, as a front page article in the New York Times today indicates we have a major societal program with obesity and the resulting related medical conditions for a vast and growing segment of our society. This NYTimes article is the first of a planned series of articles about this issue. Today's article points out that drug makers are certainly interested in pursuing research in this area as indicated by the article's title.."Drug Makers Race to Cash In on Fight Against Fat." From this article the most salient point is that our national obesity epidemic---one that has been linked to diabetes, heart disease and other conditions now accounts for more than $100 billion of the United States' $1.8 trillion annual medical bill.

For those who don't have access to the NY Times you can read the article here... www.nytimes.com/business. If you don't want to sign up for this site you still can see and hear Ms. Saul's audio report(Interactive Site) and the list of companies working in this area of research. It appears from this list that Aventis(SNY) is the furthest along, but even their product has limited application in solving this issue.

What is interesting about this initial article is that Ms. Saul only deals with companies that are attempting to address the obese person's problem after the fact, whereas, (SNMX) is address the problem with a preventive approach. As I've stated, there is no certainty that (SNMX) will be successful, however, in that they have already received an approval for one of their products (Savory Receptors)IMO "if" and "when" they receive governmental approval for their salty and sweet receptors any food manufacturer should clamor for the rights to use such a preventive approach to this obesity issue. If by adding (SNMX's) product to the food production process and with no additional cost to a product, thus helping address the $1.8 trillion annual medical bill for our nation then what is wrong with such efforts to address a societal problem?

I would venture a guess that if SNMX moves their salty and sweet program into the stage of submitting it for governmental approval then the stock will not be a $11.00 stock. All just my opinion!!!
