It doesn't prohibit such things. But our legislatures have put restrictions on the 2nd Amendment and the courts have backed them. Many of the restrictions are reasonable imo. Some are not (the number of bullets in a pistol, for example).

So basically the legislature is able to take away a constitutionally guaranteed right to bear arms? Or at least restrict certain types of weapons. Strict interpretation of the constitution would find that unconstitutional. Therefore I'm not sure that they couldn't add hand guns to the list along with grenades, assault rifles and tanks.

Looks like you have confirmed my hypothesis. Too bad so many are so arrogant and self doubting. Nobody telling you to buy a gun (clearly with your thoughts you should not). You should actually be on suicide watch somewhere if you are not already.

Nothing dark about confronting reality, and suicide is reality in this world. I have no intention of blowing my head off, but 1/4 of all gun deaths in the US is by suicide and 1/4 is by accidents, usually by kids playing with daddy's gun. In fact if you own a gun there is about a 10,000 to one chance that your kid will be killed by your gun as opposed to the midnight prowler that you're arming yourself for.

I know two people that have offed themselves with a firearm. In both cases they were hunters. In both cases they shot themselves in the head with their deer rifles. They did it by using their toe on the trigger. One of them shot himself because he was having marital problems, the other because he didn't have a wife and was lonely.

By the way, I'm not an advocate of suicide. And I'm certainly not suicidal. Both of my friends that did themselves in never let on that anything was bothering them. They seemed very normal to me just days before they did it. It's sad. Suicide is not any solution to life's problems.

If you are going to have guns, and I do have them, you need to be a good steward of them and use and store them properly. Unfortunately most people do not do these things.

Even though I own guns, I support limiting access to firearms. I support registration and licensing of guns and their operators. Too many guns ending up in the hands of kids, and criminals...and it's because they are readily available. When kids are taking guns to school...we need to rethink access to guns.

Would you be against registering firearms and requiring classes and proficiency tests for a gun license? We certainly require drivers licenses, and with good reason.

And who is responsible when a kid takes an adult's gun to school? To me the fault lies in large part with the adult for allowing the kid access to the gun. Hiding it is not enough...kids will find it. You need a lockable gun safe, and or trigger locks.
