The practice of owning a handgun should be outlawed except in the case of military or law enforcement personnel. It is one thing to use rifles or shotguns for hunting and quite another to possess a firearm for which its only purpose is to harm or kill human beings. I don't believe a lot of people who own handguns would seriously be able to employ them in the event of need, and a hardened criminal would have no such hesitation. We're better off taking our chances unarmed, as far more people are killed in ACCIDENTAL gun incidents than the gun lobbyists would have us believe.
