I thought the punch line was going to be that you married one of them :-)

But no. It wasn't.

We saw lots of hitchhikers and backpackers in Scotland- they especially like the highlands, where we were living. But the ones we saw were mostly German and Scandinavian (though I saw two darling Italian girls on a bus once- and boy did THEY stand out, since the people in Scotland are not all that expressive). We saw only very nicely behaved young people.
