Actually this is a common misconception. The increasing lifespan is more a function of declining infant mortality in the past 50 years.

I have done research on my clan (way back....). Most families had 10 children, 3 of whom died before the age of 1. The rest lived to 70 or beyond. The average for the 10 was 50.7 (7 times 72 years old, plus 3 times 1 year old, divide by 10 kids). I saw this generation after generation for hundreds of years.
