Vinnie: silicon-based LCDs give higher pixel densities

That approach is being used to make small (1"), high-resolution (>1000 lines) devices for projection and head-mounted displays.

Here are a few questions that will distinguish between the many possible approaches to LCDs that your friends may be working on:

1) is it a transmission or reflection device?
2) single crystal silicon?
3) what type of liquid crystal material is used?
4) how large are the displays?
5) how may lines per inch?

Depending on their answers, we'll know much more about their approach.
