Tennis makes a lot of sense when you consider how tennis is scored; love equals zero. While true love in the ‘real world’ should mean that you never have to say you’re sorry, Oliver in Love Story doesn’t really get a chance to be sorry! For this Ollie it is the case that love equals zero. But then Oliver in Love Story doesn’t play tennis until the sequel; Oliver’s Story… Segal should have placed the tennis bit in the first movie as well as the second!

”Chapter 9
When leaving the doctor’s office Oliver is very angry about what he has found out, but he is happy that the doctor didn’t ask for Joanna Stein. He comes to the conclusion that he didn’t disclose any details of the relationship to his psychiatrist and Mr London didn’t ask intensively.
While running through Central Park he meets a girl called Marcie who is physically fit and well trained, Oliver introduces himself as Pancho B. Gonzales. They agree to meet the next morning for a tennis match. “

O.K. Mr. Smartie, there is a second sport, or should I say a first sport in the first movie that you remember so well.

”With this begins one of Erich Segal most celebrated novels where he pens down a saga about two beautiful, but totally different characters that fall in love with each other when they know they have nothing in common but love. The blunt and inspiring conversations of Oliver Barrett, a millionaire Harvard ice hockey jock and Jennifer Cavilleri, a wise cracking Radcliff music major are the highlights of this book. They are sure to bring an ear-to-ear smile on your face and feasibly, even make you laugh. As she once answered Oliver when they first met during their college years “

It’s funny that you remember ice hockey being Ollie’s sport when the only ice you ever see is in your glass along with your gin and tonic water. I bet Love Story is one of your favorite movies of all time!
