paret, why don't you check with some of these lefties about how many of them would shoot on sight if they ever saw me.
Terri wasn't home any more, paret. She'd been gone for some time. With the "miracles" of modern medicine, you can keep a piece of human flesh going long after the part that makes it a person- -the consciousness, the personality- -is gone. Sometimes you just have to keep feeding it, it no longer being capable of the act of intelligence required to feed itself. Sometimes you have to breath for it, too, if things are bad enough.
But "you", the essential "you", isn't there. Those activities are controlled by the brainstem, the old "reptilian brain". "You" live in the cerebral cortex, the mammalian brain. The brainstem is somewhat hard to stop; the cotrex goes quickly and easily. When it does and the brainstem is left functioning, you get a thing that will stay warm, have a pulse, and digest food forced into it, but is no more human than a rock. It takes more than that to be human.
You may like it or you may not, but you had best get used to situations like these and society had best decide what is to be done, because, as medical science advances, they will only become commoner.
Terri R'ed.I.P a long time ago. It just finally became official. And the Democrats and Dr. Mengele had nothing to do with it. Your local hospital and your doctor did. |
