But authorities must draw the line somewhere... lest we fall into "necro-fetishism". What would you say if Terri Schiavo's parents, having been granted custody of her, announced that they've hired a taxidermist to stuff her so that, after Terri's death, they could still keep her sitting in the living room? (Actually, such a grotesque idea crossed my mind as I watched all the hoopla about Pope John Paul II's death throes... I said to myself, they're gonna stuff him, then fit him with wires and springs and electronics to twist his head from side to side... lift his right arm up and down... plug a tape-recorder in his back and... Bob's your uncle! John Paul II will remain with us for ever and ever --as the last, immortal Pope!)
