It's strange you mention the Pope, Ronald Reagan, and Maggie Thatcher now.

Not strange at all. They stood up to the Soviet Empire together, and it fell. It was truly evil, and now it's gone.

America has done some incredible things, too. We were there. And we are here, now.

People in Eastern Europe know what we did, and they are grateful. We were, and remain, a beacon of hope in a dark world.

A world that, dare I say it, is brighter and better because of us, as well.

By honoring the life of Karol Wojtyla, we remind ourselves of the battles we've fought, and won, and remind ourselves that they were worth fighting, and remain worth fighting.

He was one of us. We pick up the banner he dropped, and continue the fight he led.
