StockMan,

Re: "What's your take on AMD getting their 0.25u chips from the IBM fabs. "

I have always maintained that IBM is the only other company that is on
par (or even slightly ahead) of Intel in regards to process development.
I'm sure IBM has a .25um process running in volume that can produce
CPU's that run as fast as Intel's. I also expect that IBM's wafer
cost is higher than Intel's.

Now with that said, I see a few issues with this IBM/AMD "link-up"

1) If IBM builds .25um K6's, they won't sell them to AMD at mfg cost !!
So if you factor in an IBM profit and higher than Intel wafer cost, this
merger wouldn't allow AMD to sell the resulting CPU's for a competitive
price.

2) IBM has no motivation (other than as a FAB shop filler) to build the
K6 chip. Typically, a companies' state-of-the-art process is used for
internal consumption because volume/capacity is limited.

These are my thoughts, hope this helps.

Make It So,
Yousef
