Sometimes I forget where your politics are, Bill. Thanks for the reminder. Glad I live where you can't carry concealed. And particularly glad NYC hasn't turned in to the Wild West.
You should visit the Wild West and do your own homework.
With one exception, every man I know well in Northern Idaho has a concealed carry permit and they all carry at least sometimes.
And Northern Idaho (North of left wing Idaho University in Moscow) has the lowest violent crime rate in the nation. Statewide the murder rate in armed Idaho is consistently in the lowest 5 of all 50 states.
18,000-20,000 people are murdered in America every year. 341 were murdered in NJ in 2003. 40 in Trenton alone. The total for Idaho in 2003 was 27. And only 4-5 of those were in heavily armed N Idaho.
Most of my neighbors never lock their doors. The only families I know in my neighborhood with monitored security systems moved here from Southern California and Seattle.
Now lets look at your neighborhood...
"In New Jersey, a typical 24-hour period produces 408 larcenies, 121 burglaries, 98 vehicle thefts, 46 aggravated assaults, 38 robberies, 5 arsons, 4 rapes and a fraction of one murder... The six cities that the state classifies as "major urban" in its crime reporting statistics-Newark, Jersey City, Paterson, Elizabeth, Camden and Trenton-contain 11.3% of New Jersey's population, but account for 35% of violent crimes (including half the murders) and 22% of all crimes."
The bottom line, John, is you owe it to your family to get the hell out of the Wild East. And by now you should know guns in friendly hands are friendly. When you disarm friendlies the deterrent is gone. Even the NYT finally recognizes that. |
