FWIW, RE $5 gas, with local prices ranging ~ 2.25 for regular and 2.49 premium, I have noticed a slight decrease in traffic in my area. Won't know for certain till I see how the summer traffic is when the tourists come, that will be an excellent indicator for the economy, but summer is probably too late for helping with any market prognostications. The market will show its hand (thumbs up or down) for the year by May 15-31.
AFA my own opinion, the market hand signal is going to be thumbs down.
