Does liberalism cause crime and poverty and force people into racially segregated neighborhoods or are they just lucky?

I know JohnM likes to sneer at evangelicals and the Religious Right, but kids brought up in religious families are less likely to engage in criminal behavior. Frequent church attendees are less likely to commit crimes than infrequent attendees.

Another factor is whether you grow up in an intact two-parent family, and conservatives are both less likely to have children out of wedlock, and less likely to get divorced. Kids whose father never married their mother are more likely to commit crimes, as are kids whose parents are divorced. And worst of all are kids who grow up in neighborhoods with a high rate of single-parent families.

Don't forget, the single most likely predictor of poverty is whether a child is born to a single teenaged mother who hasn't finished high school, "babies making babies." That's a death spiral into a life of poverty that is almost impossible to escape.
