Do you know if Lombardy or Venice is where Berlusconi originated? That would explain why those two provinces did not go over to the opposition. Well, they are two different entities. Lombardy is a region of which Milan is the capital. It is very industrial in nature and landlocked, just north of the PO valley. Venice of course is a city in the region called Venezia. It is on the adriatic cost, east of Lombardy. I don't know if Berlusconi was born in Lombardy, but he went to college there, and he got a law degree at the U of Milan.
