"People naturally gravitate in different directions according to their inclinations." Yep... for example, people primarily interested in maximum earnings will choose a business career (investment banking, starting a company, etc., etc.) rather then relatively low paying careers in social work or teaching, etc. College professors may be the cream of the teaching profession, but overall, teaching still averages lower pay.
