Quick Google gives daviddfriedman.com Some years since I read Lott's main work. My understanding is that he attracted a firestorm of criticicm, generally invalid. His writings support my personal experience. First, the sort of people who will apply for a carry permit are the least likely to use a shooter unreasonably. Also, the far most likely use of a gun is deterrence, not killing or wounding. In my trail, there is one punk who'll seriously consider the wisdom of attempted assault and mugging, plus a small gang of now grown twits who'll hesitate at the thought of burglary. None were shot, but staring down the barrel of a .45 has a certain salutary effect.
