Opinions are judged based on factual content, logical construction and authority. Opinions which lack any of the three are weaker than those containing all three.

Appeal to Authority is a logical fallacy and is not necessary or helpful to a position. If the authority is unwilling or unable to provide facts to support their opinion, what good is he/she?

Of course I don't disagree with the use of logic and facts, but clearly it's the interpretation of facts, especially for moral matters, that are subject to individual bias. Your arguments about greyhounds are based upon your personal experience. I knew someone in Greyhound Rescue when I was in college who was accused of starving his dogs because they were skinny. That comes from a misinterpretation of facts. Yes, the dogs' ribs showed. Yes, most dogs in this condition are not well fed. However, in the case of greyhounds, this is part of the defining characteristics of the breed.

You did use "Appeal to Authority" in dismissing the otherwise factual content of the article posted by Grainne in this post: Message 21200467
which is the only reason I commented.
