>>Pope's Death: Nigeria's Arinze Top Contender

According to news reports on the international circuit, Cardinal Arinze's chances of assuming the office of pope—also known as the Bishop of Rome—are brightened by his conservatism which closely mirror that of the late Pope John Paul II. Associated Press Religion writer, Brian Murphy, reports that Cardinal Arinze "shares some of John Paul's conservative views on contraception and family issues." Furthermore, one of the five French cardinals who would be attending the secret conclave, Cardinal Bernard Panafieu, told AP yesterday that he is expecting a new pope "who dynamizes the people—God's people—as John Paul II did…a man who has an international sense, of the opening of Catholicism to the world…and at the same time, a man faithful to the great traditions of the Church." Some Vatican watchers believe Cardinal Arinze easily fits this profile.<<

And don't forget that, in Africa, conservative leaders regard homosexuals as vermin. So, there'll be no more of that abomination in the Catholic Church if Arinze becomes Pope.
