SAMSys debuting new MP9320 v2.8 RFID UHF Reader; including support for the EPC Gen 2 standard

SAMSys to demonstrate Gen 2 tag read/write capability at RFID Journal
Live! trade show on April 10-12 in Chicago

TORONTO, April 5 /CNW/ - SAMSys Technologies Inc. (SMY: TSX), an
international provider of Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) hardware
solutions, today announced that it will be debuting its new MP9320 v2.8 RFID
reader at RFID Journal Live! in Chicago on April 10-12. This reader is the
first of its products that is capable of reading tags that conform to the new
EPC Generation Two (Gen 2) standard.
The MP9320 v2.8 reader is the latest addition to the SAMSys family of
multi-protocol, multi-regional, UHF RFID readers that support the full array
of currently available UHF protocols viz. EPC Class 0 and 0+; EPC Class 1,
ISO 18000-6A, ISO 18000-6B, Philips UCODE 1.19, EM 4222 and Intellitag. Adding
support for the EPC Gen 2 tag protocol represents the final step in the
migration path to the emerging global standard tag protocol; and in the
ability to support this new standard alongside existing legacy installations.
This new standard protocol has already been endorsed by many of the current
adopters of RFID technology such as Wal-Mart, Metro Group, the U.S. DoD, and
many other major retailers and consumer packaged goods companies.
The introduction of the SAMSys MP9320 v2.8 reader allows customers to
select from multiple sources of supply for their RFID tags and to migrate over
time to the new Gen 2 tag standard. Many of the suppliers of chips for Gen 2
tag products have already announced plans to have product available later this
year. SAMSys will be demonstrating the new MP9320 v2.8 reader operating with
early versions of Gen 2 tags and emulators from Impinj, Philips and Texas
Instruments at the RFID Journal Live! show in Chicago on April 10-12, 2005.

The SAMSys MP9320 v2.8 reader also includes a number of additional
enhancements; e.g.:
- increased read/write speed and improved performance over its earlier
predecessor, the MP9320 v2.7
- improved multi-regional performance; e.g. support of ETSI 302 208; and
- regulatory conformity for use in many Asian markets.

"Impinj is pleased to collaborate with SAMSys on the details of Gen 2
implementation," said Dr. William Colleran, president and CEO of Impinj.
"Ensuring interoperability between Impinj's fully compliant Gen 2 products and
SAMSys' reader product line will be extremely beneficial to our RFID
customers."
"SAMSys' new MP9320 v2.8 UHF reader significantly helps to move the EPC
Gen 2 standard forward", said Tony Sabetti, UHF/Retail Supply chain director,
Texas Instruments RFID Systems. "We're working closely together to maximize
interoperability between our Gen 2 tags and SAMSys readers."
"We continue to expand our RFID reader product line to support the open
standard initiatives of EPCglobal and ISO. We are delighted to be working in
close partnership with Impinj, Philips, and Texas Instruments to help
commercialize the new Gen 2 tag protocol standard so that end users can
benefit from the inherent advantages of the Gen 2 protocol", said Cliff
Horwitz, chairman, president and CEO of SAMSys.
"We believe it is imperative to provide customers with a smooth migration
path to this next generation of tag products. The introduction of the
MP9320 v2.8 reader is further evidence of our True Blue Gen 2 assurance of
full interoperability between EPCglobal, ISO and proprietary UHF RFID tags;
and our prior assurances to customers of the ability to upgrade certain older
reader models to support the newly approved EPC Gen 2 protocol. SAMSys has
long been known as the innovative leader in multi-protocol readers, and this
action underscores our commitment to that philosophy."
The new MP9320 v2.8 reader will be available for delivery in May and has
a suggested list price of $2,999. Reseller discounts are available. For more
