I don't think you know enough about the NRA to detest it, Grainne. It is the oldest and most effective grass roots organization in our country. The NRA is composed of a wide range of citizens, all of whom share beliefs about the Second Amendment and have a higher than average participation in: Voting, Church or Synagogue, community activities, law enforcement, support of law enforcement, and general good citizenship. You hate images of firearms abuse promulgated on TV and the movies. You hate firearms abuse by criminals, or people who have no knowledge of proper firearms use, or who lack the mental stability or maturity to use them properly. The NRA works against those things that you hate. Your opinions of the NRA are fogged by false information injected into the fray by pressure groups and people who blame guns for the ills of society that aren't being effectively dealt with. If these pressure groups would focus on the real problem as effectively as the NRA focuses on its objective, abuse of firearms would go away. They blame the NRA for their own ineffectiveness, because they have no better idea.
