Charming Shoppes Reports August Sales
BENSALEM, Pa., Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Charming Shoppes, Inc.
(Nasdaq: CHRS), the retail apparel chain, today reported that total sales for the four weeks ended August 30, 1997, were $77,900,000 as against sales of $75,000,000 for the comparable period ended August 31, 1996. The Company currently operates 1,135 stores as compared to 1,174 stores at the end of August 1996. Sales for comparable stores increased six percent during August.
Sales for the seven months ended August 30, 1997, were $579,300,000 as against sales of $579,100,000 for the comparable period last year. The Company's year-to-date comparable store sales increased five percent.
During the month of August, the Company opened five new stores and
currently operates 1,135 stores in 43 states under the names "Fashion Bug" and "Fashion Bug Plus."
