Then I guess the only question is whether supply of ultra pure fused silica has been the only constraint in the production of these reduction lenses.

I like the Corning story. They know glass better than anyone else in the world. [They are lowest cost producer of fiber for fiber optic cable by 30% according to a reliable source.] Corning's major competitors for ultra pure fused silica are Hiraeus and Schott, both German companies. I've been unable to get any market share data and I would guess that Zeiss probably gets silica from one or both of these two.

I agree with you on the potential CYMI bottleneck. But that may also be a function of other bottlenecks in the supply chain of critical components. They have a number of sole suppliers.

No wonder steppers are so darn expensive!
