I'm not sure if Sandisk underestimated demand, if there was a manufacturing problem or if they just decided to use their available flash supply for other form factors, but Sandisk is clearly missing out some sales of Pro Duo cards. The 1GB cards are sold out (or were never available) everywhere that I have looked. The 512MB and 256MB versions seem to be relatively plentiful.

Sony Sells Half Million PSPs in Two Days Thursday April 7, 6:14 pm ET Sony Sells More Than 500,000 Units of the PlayStation Portable in Its First Two Days on Market
FOSTER CITY, Calif. (AP) -- Sony Corp. said it sold more than 500,000 units of the PlayStation Portable in its first two days on the North American market. Sony started selling the $249 game system, also called the PSP, on March 24. The midnight launch generated lines outside stores.
In a press release Thursday, the electronics maker also said the machine generated $150 million in sales during the first week.
The gadget, which is being targeted at adults, can also play movies and music. Its wide array of functions may help Sony, which invented the Walkman, regain some ground against Apple Computer Inc., whose iPod music player is now the trendsetter among expensive electronic toys. |
