The idea that people have a duty to vote has always seemed odd to me. The idea that it's a "good thing" if more people vote is also odd. The idea that people should legally be made to vote and presumably punished if they don't, seems absolutely insane. Belgians are insane. I think some other countries probably also have laws requiring people to vote. They are also insane.

If people are too ignorant to vote, or don't want to, or too lazy or something, then that's fine by me. It increases the influence of my vote.

The fewer the people who vote, the lower the cost of running elections. Fewer votes is a 'good thing'.
