Tom Sunderman just delivered the missing link to connect the nodes in a way AMDs manufacturing strategy does fit in a model I understand: I never found a way to reasonably model Fab36 and Chartered coming online at (nearly) the same time, because frankly I do not see markets to absorb the additional volume from two 300mm-fabs - and I do not see AMD having a selling-process (aka marketing) to push it down the throats ready at this time.

Fab36 acting as a delevopment fab for a while, most probably being utilized by the Consortium around IBM for 65nm and beyond was just beyond my imagination until yesterday. Although I knew pretty well IBM needs Fishkill capacities for Cell.

Actually my level of conviction about the way I see it going is high enough to change my model accordingly. Surprisingly, nothing much in the CPG financial numbers section changes significantly for 06/07. More change for Flash. Because I now see SP1 materializing.

Bottom line, I feel more confident in what AMD is doing - iaw I believe to understand it better than I did the day before yesterday - in a time horizon of half a decade.
