I think it's a good law. Let's say I'm out minding my own business when a group of hoodlums threatens me.

If I happen to be armed, why should I have to retreat?

Also it makes a carry permit a whole lot more useful. No point in carrying a gun around if the law requires you to retreat from a threat.
