However, due to the shortage of priests, there are women who do a lot of the work in churches that normally the priest would do but they are not allowed to give Mass. Eucharistic ministers can give communion. Lay ministers - are people who are not ordained but who participate in the church. archdiocesesantafe.org Married Men can be deacons, and there has been some movement towards allowing woman deacons but I think so far the idea has been rejected.
