Many liberals and moderates are for capital punishment and the 2nd Amendment, including me, just not assault rifles, guns shows and lack of safety technology.
Execution is fine for the worst offenders, but not as a means of lynching. Remember, in Texas and the south most capital punishment is still reserved for poor black males. I'm not sure a rich white person has ever been convicted of murder in this country. Certainly none has been executed. And especially in Texas and the south any rich white can still get away with murder.
Remember that in Dixie, the rightwing likes to arrest blacks and try to convict them of felonies. That way they can take away their right to vote. Some are truly guilty, but others are not.
They also like to throw harmless drug users in prison. Until recently, marijuana could land you in the clinker for years and years, especially in Texas where they drink more beer than anywhere. So the debate goes to drug laws too. In fact, why not legalize grass and tax it heavily? That would save tens of billions, pay for health care and keep hard drugs and mafias largely out of business. The hemp plant could also be used for paper and other uses, saving our scant remaining forests.
Remember, always follow the money. Pharmacuticals, prisons, wars, security business, timber cutting, weapons, tobacco, illegal immigrant workers, etc. are all big business, so those special interests like to keep things the same so the profits keep flowing. These are the very same special interests, among others like pollution and gambling, which back GW Bush's machine. |
