Laz I thought of that woman you are helping... How is she doing.
PM me if you really want to know. You may not want to. Medically, no deterioration, but she has made a terrible decision.

Read this and my response.

That's the other end of life- -the part that supposedly runs up about 50% of lifetime medical costs. And there is also a description in there of just what you can expect from the Welfare State when things get tight.

Of course, as the article says, in Canada private medical practice is illegal, whereas many other nations have parallel private and public systems (and, to some extent, the US is one of them).

But that IQ connection.....
Should my taxes go up to pay for people who will not follow medical instructions? Who do not keep appts for no good reason or who simply will not take medication as scheduled?

Similar situations also arise in private industry when others must take up the load for someone who will not carr their share, but it is expected that management ultimately will take action to correct the situation. Maybe Mother Nature is "management" here.

Suma, there are limited resources. Not all of them can go to health care. Nor should they. Fairly cheap public health measures, such as insect vector control, can accomplish more than all the medicos in the country.
