You cannot assume that people will always continue to behave in the same way they did once is the only answer I can really give you, Coug. Some people who post here, particularly occasional posters, do not realize the history of some of the animosities at SI, and get sucked into making comments that really would not be perceived of as being lethally malicious unless there were already a lot of raw nerves.

That does not mean that they will always behave that way, particularly if they are basically well mannered and didn't understand all the dynamics of the situation. I personally believe it is better to make connections with people and give them chances to have integrity and behave well, rather than dividing SI into a couple of armed camps. I hate SI the way it is now, and I'm not going to behave in a way that polarizes it even further. I have lots of friends and acquaintances at SI who are not liberals but whose company or minds or sense of humor or whatever I enjoy for one reason or another, and I would like anyone who is not actually banned at Feelies to feel comfortable posting here, because that world is just a lot warmer and richer and more interesting to me than the one of epithets and harsh divides.
