For an example, you buy the party line that the US invaded Iraq to free the Iraqis from Saddam. Much of the world doesn't buy that line. Hitler said that he invaded the surrounding countries to free the Germanic peoples in those country; that they were suffering under heavy handed discrimination. Most of the world didn't buy that line either.
The important difference being that part of the reason that Bush invaded was to free the Iraqis from Saddam (and even possibly to free other Arabs who might be inspired by the example of a Democratic Iraq).
Oh come on, Tim.....we invaded Iraq to protect America [the stated reason] and to secure ME oil [the unstated reason]. Liberating the Iraqis and giving them democracy was way done the list.
0% of the reason while Hitler invaded was to bring democracy and freedom to anyone.
Wrong. Hitler was bringing freedom to the Germanic people entrapped in foreign countries. If you can believe that Bush's main goal was to free the Iraqis, then you should be able to buy into Hitler's goal to free Germanic peoples everywhere.
The Nazis strongly promoted German nationalism. If you did not support the war effort, you were not a good German. The GOP strongly promotes American nationalism. If you do not support the war and American troops in Iraq, then you are not a good American.
The Nazis imposed nationalism. If you didn't support the war effort you might well be shot. Bush hasn't called anyone un-American for the sole reason that they opposed the war.
No, Bush hasn't but his minions have. However, I will give you that no one has been shot who has spoken out against the war.........ostracized but not shot.
The Nazis said that the rest of the world was jealous of Germany and wanted to keep it from realizing its full potential by limiting it through treaties and other global legislation. The GOP/Bush makes a similar argument when it encourages us to retreat from our commitments to the UN, the Geneva Conventions, the Kyoto Protocol, the World Court etc.
1 - Opposing certain treaties falls under the category I mentioned with the statement " All the attributes that are similar are common."
2 - Bush hasn't encouraged a "retreat from our commitments to the UN, the Geneva Conventions, the Kyoto Protocol, the World Court etc." We have no obligations under the Kyoto Protocol or to the World Court. Bush has not argued that the US isn't or shouldn't be bound by the Geneva Conventions.
Give me a break.......we said we would sign the Kyoto Protocol and then reneged. We were a signatory to the World Court. And ole Rummie argued we should not follow the Conventions when it came to the Iraqi and Afghan wars. AG gonzales gave him the memo he needed.
And there's another 3-4 more things we have quit like the anti missile treaty. They make a new announcement every six months or so of something new we are quitting. Who do they or you think you're kidding? Another neocon agenda item is being fulfilled....isolate the US so that it has no global commitments.
3 - Find one statement where Bush said he was pulling out of, or refusing to sign or support, a treaty, because the rest of the world wanted the US to sign the treaty because they are jealous.
Tim, go play with your navel!
