> Just shows how cheap Chinese goods actually are. In fact, one could almost say they are working for nothing.
And that's not good say American "do-gooders" who regard China as a "currency manipulator" because its goods are so cheap.

>> Currency manipulation will be an unfair trade practice under a proposed law allowing US manufacturers to directly challenge for the first time China's fixed yuan, lawmakers said. The "Chinese Currency Act of 2005" is the latest of a series of bills filed in Congress against China's currency peg linking the yuan to the US dollar, which critics say has left the yuan vastly undervalued at the expense of US industry.
The bipartisan legislation to be introduced in the House of Representatives by Republican California Representative Duncan Hunter and Democratic Ohio Representative Tim Ryan has won backing from many lawmakers as well as trade, industry and labor groups, lawmakers said.
"There is a compelling argument for this bill, including from the national security standpoint," Hunter, who heads the House's powerful Armed Services Committee, told a news conference.
The yuan, which is fixed to the US dollar, is grossly undervalued, keeping China's exports artificially cheap, undermining US exports, putting many Americans out of work and threatening the closure of many industries, he said.<<
No doubt the US prefers to employ "illegal" Mexicans in its own factories rather than "legal" Chinese in China because there is no way that Americans will be prepared to work for the slave wages necessary to produce goods at competitive prices even if the renminbi revalues.

>>The laws of this country are not being enforced by elected or appointed government officials, or by the judicial system. There are 20 million illegal aliens in this country. It is not our responsibility to feed, clothe, medicate, and shelter these illegal aliens. It appears as if you [Rice] and Mr. Bush will only be satisfied when this country is barren and its citizens demoralized. At a time when more than 15 million Americans are unemployed, the Bush Administration, with your firm support, continues its efforts to impose/legalize more illegal aliens. Through the amnesty known as the "guest-worker" program, you are importing competition and outsourcing jobs. This results in depressed wages covering the full spectrum of employment. Mass immigration-generated wage depression exceeds $200 billion annually, according to economist George Borjas, Professor of Economics and Social Policy, Harvard University. When I say you advocate a higher form of slavery, I refer to your overt support of this Administration's encouragement of "slave wages." On March 18, 2005, an article was published about an $11 million dollar settlement by Wal-Mart, and the analysis of the wages paid to the illegal aliens performing cleaning services for Wal-Mart showed an average payment of $1.23 per hour. Therefore, it is rather tacky when reporters point out that you can trace your ancestry back to the "slave" days, when what you currently advocate is revoltingly similar.<< |
