Students are mostly brainwashed by their parents to accept whatever belief system they themselves believe in. So if most of Ionesco's students believe in Jesus, it is because they were exposed to Jesus in their homes, not because they used any analytical skills at all to determine what beliefs made sense to them. As I have said before, I think it is actually child abuse to brainwash a child, to teach babies how to pray, to indoctrinate them in Christianity or any other belief system. I think a better way is to expose children to critical thinking skills and to all common belief systems, and let them make their own choices. I did this with a book suitable for toddlers with prayers from all the major (and some minor) religions.

I realize you were posting to Ionesco, but this is a subject I have a lot of interest in. I can't imagine why you believe that as a public school teacher she would not be very clear that she cannot teach religion to her class. I wonder if you realize how insulting your statement is that you assume she is "cooking" her bias into her philosophy teaching. At the same time, as a poster, she does have the right to express her own beliefs here.
