Re: I´m wondering if offering AMD on a limited scale might even increase Dell´s leverage wrt. INTEL

As far as AMD and Dell are concerned, I really hope Hector Ruiz stands firm (and I believe he will). A good part of Dell's rise over the past few years was achieved by stepping on AMD's face.

Dell gained the benefit of special Intel pricing by agreeing to cut off AMD's access to a significant part of the market. HP, Fujitsu, and the white box makers put up with a lot of Intel heat to help keep AMD alive. Even IBM gave AMD some cover by offering it in a few selected boxes.

Dell is a parasite. It spends 1.5% of revenue on R&D while HP and IBM each spend 4 times that amount. (Intel spends 15% and AMD spends an amazing 30%). cbs.marketwatch.com

Dell puts stickers on boxes that are designed and manufactured in China by Chinese companies according to Intel basic reference specs. It functions as a short term least common denominator pulling support for new technology out of the industry and guiding everything towards an Intel / China sole source monopoly.

AMD is in a great position, now, but will certainly face some tough times again, one of these days. Dell needs to be shown the consequences of not supporting the companies that made it possible for it to be what and where it is today.

I pray that Hector responds to any requests from Dell with - "Feel free to buy chips from Avnet and we'll be delighted to provide you with support from the public sections of our web site. Have a nice day and welcome aboard."

Dell wants an Intel monopoly world? Great! Now let them live their dream.
