I don't really go places where there are hoodlums, I don't stay out late at night, and I always live in really safe neighborhoods with excellent police protection (and quick response). I don't want any guns in my house because it is more likely that a gun would be stolen by a criminal or used by someone to commit suicide or homicide in some sort of rage, or that there would be a gun accident, rather than the likelihood of someone in my family successfully using the gun to defend us. If someone is determined to kill you, they probably can. With everyone else, they are crimes of opportunity, and I try to make sure there are better opportunities elsewhere. I use normal security precautions at home, and have the very early warning device of three dogs. A burglar would probably choose a house in my neighborhood that wouldn't start them all barking.

Are the hoodlums in Florida so deprived they don't have good weapons? That certainly is not usually the case out West.
