"I don't really go places where there are hoodlums, I don't stay out late at night, and I always live in really safe neighborhoods with excellent police protection (and quick response)."

That's fine for you, but what about the 150,000,000 Americans who can't afford to live like that?

"If someone is determined to kill you, they probably can."

Not after I have blasted six large holes into his chest and out his back with my .357. I defy anyone to kill me after that.

"Are the hoodlums in Florida so deprived they don't have good weapons? That certainly is not usually the case out West."

So you are saying anything less than a fully automatic weapon is not a "good" weapon? I disagree with that, you can get a really excellent weapon at a reasonable price. Mine cost me $299, used but in very good condition. I think you might misunderstand the meaning of the term "automatic weapon."

But all this is beside the point, I'm not interested in your personal lifestyle. What I am concerned with is the ability of the average citizen, regardless of wealth or status, to protect him or herself from criminals. Even those who due to dire personal circumstances have no choice but to enter into places where there are hoodlums. Your personal circumstances are not terribly relevant to that issue.
