The Boy Scouts started with a certain set of ethics and beliefs. I don't think we can require them to abandon those beliefs.
The whole time I was in Boy Scouts religion and God was NEVER discussed, except in the Oath.
Why not include pedophiles? After all, what they do is only undesirable because we say it is.
You have to draw the line in the sand someplace, and the Boy Scouts did that.
The story about returning a wallet, or not, depending on atheist beliefs is a poor example and never should have been uttered.
A woman left her purse in the Post Office in the building where I worked. I waited with it for a half hour, then took it over to the police. They said, why not call her? I hadn't looked inside the purse, because that's like looking under a skirt or entering a house uninvited. So then I looked for her ID, called her, and drove the purse over to her house. She was very grateful. It had nothing to do with religion or belief in God. It did, however, have something to do with the principles I learned from my parents, and from the Boy Scouts.
Boy Scouts are too young to be gay or not, so I think that is just a red herring. I don't think it's proper for anyone to be promoting that lifestyle to anyone. It should be a personal choice derived from within.
I've known but a few gay people in my entire life, and as far as I can tell they are just as good as anybody else as long as they keep their bedroom doors closed, just like everybody else. I don't care for heterosexuals who flaunt their behaviors publicly either. |
