In Bill Nordstrom's Growth Stock Newsletter he notes an industrial laser manufacturer who was unable to achieve specks for an automaker using conventional glass and lens. "Cross sections of the test indicated the Gradium seam welds to be approximately 40% deeper than the welds with conventional optics." If this is accurate, and I assume it is, it is a real world application that indicates superior results. I think this year should prove if this technology will fly in the real world.
