My own belief is that people are now risk averse, and want to invest in the tangibles regardless of whatever "value" may really be there, be it real estate or commodities or oil.

The techs will come back only after they show meaningful gains in earnings. You are correct in saying that earnings have not been exciting for AMAT; however, past is not prologue.

These are the companies which will make tomorrow possible, be it cars which drive themselves or computers which interact and can speak for people incapacitated. And yet, let's be honest, few people see the possibilities.

People have to see the possibilities of these companies, and be willing to take some risk. When that happens is anyone's guess. I never thought real estate would be bid up the way it has; another lesson in humility meted out by the market.

Right now it is en vogue (and profitable)to be invested in certain areas like real estate and oils. Tress do not grow to the sky however.
