Re: Current CO2 levels are about 1/3 of the maximum that they've been in the history of the earth.

But they are also 50% higher than at any time that humanity has attempted to rely on stable agricultural systems for maintaining a population.

Re: So what has this to do with Hiroshima, or "blowing off" the atmosphere (whatever that is)?

NASA scientists are pretty well convinced that Mars once had an atmosphere similar to that which Earth currently enjoys. The mechanisms by which that atmosphere was lost are theorized, but one way to assuredly destroy a liveable atmosphere is by means of nuclear conflagration. A perfectly possible human introduced outcome with madmen controlling the nuclear arsenals of the planet. Have you noticed the slippery slope that we are on with the criminal elites in charge of the White House and Pentagon introducing new nuclear initiatives into the National Defense Strategy, Nuclear Posture Review and National Security Strategy?
