In every society there are always a few if not many like him. One reason Hitler was able to expand and conquest was the support from locals in those countries. Also the reason for Japanese occupation of China and Taiwan, and willing to live with and can justify the brutalities associated with them. The reasons are many, among which is for the sake of taking advantage of the situation and making good living for doing so without regard to basic human morality and ethics, but follows whatever the current trend of society's mass psychology and politics. That basically typifies Han Jian, and they do have their own strong reasons for being and the justifications thereof, despite so much blinded in the fundamental aspects of humanity. If he had lived in Nazi Germany time, he would be one of the supporters and would be throwing around this type of joke "MY!, such a beautiful lamp shade! Is it made of human skin?" which referred to one commercial value from those gas chambers.
