Mr Freedland is talking shit -- pure and simple. He's clearly one the disaffected whites who ran away from the country and hoped that his decision would be justified by the demise of the country and, especially, the whites he left behind. Neither happened. But, as far as I am concerned, he made a good decision to leave -- people like him are not needed here.

For what it's worth, the whites have absolutely no political power in the "new" SA. That they have managed, after ten years of ANC rule, to retain their apparent wealth and social status is is due entirely to their own ability and determination to survive -- both as South Africans in a multi-racial society and as individuals -- and stands as a tribute to them. No-one patronizes them. Indeed, the SAn whites (with the Chinese in Malaysia) are the only minority group in the world where legislation discriminates against them. And severely. That the blacks have failed to fulfil their own dreams is due entirely their own incompetence, corruption and inability to do so. The days when they can blame whites for their shortcomings and disappointments are long past.
