You posted 1 and 5 year comparisons, but quick clicks reveal 2 year and max comparisons. Max shows that AMAT outperformed at the 2000 peak and still has outperformed. Your 5 year chart shows a larger decline from a higher peak, one that still doesn't give back all of AMAT's superior performance.
