I know a Marine who landed on Peleleu, and fought as a gunnery sergeant. Another guy I know was spared from military service by being the sole surviving son of a Marine who landed on Iwo Jima. I myself can hardly comprehend how they get men to do such things. Each one is a hero by virtue of just being there and not dying of fright.
