Repubs aren't the problem, corporate-lobbyist rightwingers are. They are like a virus which has been allowed to invade and take over the host GOP. The GOP actually used to be common sense and halfway honest. Remember Gerald Ford? Nelson Rockefellar? The old GHW Bush? reagan may have been a likeable and admirable guy, but the "revolution" behind him came tainted with massive corruption. The proof is right there in Tom Delay. Easy for all the world to see. Guys like Chuck Hagel or Mitt Romney represent the better part of the GOP now. McCain no, because he didn't stand up to Bush when it counted. He betrayed himself as an opportunist and tool of the system. All-American war hero honest guy Hagel has only a few financing scandals. He should be the GOP leader. But no, we have to put up with dishonest charlatans from the dirty money end of the corporate/CIA world like Bush and Delay.
