Believing in Christ is not exactly the same thing as believe in the Catholic ceremony of communion. Different denominations of protestants either don't have communion, or have a different opinion as to what is really happening in communion. I suppose Orthodox and maybe even Anglican would have enough of the same opinion about communion (I'd have to check) but even if they do I wouldn't call excluding them a "ridiculous form of discrimination".

Both Orthodox and Anglican believe the way the Catholics do when it comes to communion. In fact, the Orthodox religion was once part of Catholicism. I also think Lutherans also hold the same belief when it comes to communion.

What I find remarkable is that there were Orthodox priests who were part of the Pope's funeral ceremonies. Were they excluded from communion? They can be participants in the funeral but they are not allowed to take communion??? That makes little sense to me.

BTW thousands upon thousands of people in St. Peter's Square took communion at the end of the service. Do you think they were all Catholics?
