The talk that I attended included information about the increased occurrence of extreme weather events - not true according to the speaker. He showed some plots supporting his contention. It seems that there are many myths surrounding the role of CO2 in climate and global temperature.

Although I am a mathematical modeller, this is not my field, so I'm not claiming to know a lot about it. The speaker, on the other hand, is an expert on climate, and I found his arguments and data quite persuasive. I definitely share his scepticism about the reliability of numerical models for predicting climate. In an earlier talk, a physics professor who has been working on modelling the climate of Mars was also very sceptical about earth climate models. It is the presence of so much free water that makes the task very difficult. Another very tricky issue is the albedo of the earth - atmospheric warming is very sensitive to this.
