"Of course if Iran goes nuclear (assuming the country hasn't already) it would mean an end to any hope of reform, according to Rubin. "If the mullahs get the bomb, the Iranian people will get 10 Tiananmen Squares.""

This implies that the Mullahs would threaten fellow iranians with nukes or the west if they aid the students in any way. Not likely imo. I expect Iran to get the bomb and the students to inherit it. I am not sure a democratic iran with nukes is a bad thing for the region in the long term. Ultimately nuke disarmament will come when balance offsetting nuke powers realize there is no advantage to owning them and risking a nuclear accident or a madman coming to power in one of the countries. Gradual denuke of the region--middle east and south asia can flow from this current balance. Only wild card is that the mullahs will be in power most probably when iran becomes a nuke power. Mike
